Surfing Victoria and VicHealth launches second year of Women’s Stand Up Paddleboard Program

Torquay, VIC/AUS (Monday 24th October, 2016): Surfing Victoria and VicHealth are excited to announce the launch the second year of Coasting: Stand Up Paddleboarding for Women, a program designed to get more females active over this coming summer.

This year the program has expanded and will be delivered at 17 different Victorian locationsas a 3-session program including Bendigo, Port Fairy, Barwon Heads and the Mornington Peninsula.

Surfing Victoria CEO, Adam Robertson, is excited to see the changes to the program take shape.

“We got some incredible feedback last year on the program and we have made some significant changes, including expansion to inland locations.”

“Females from more regions than ever will now be able to participate in the Coasting program and get active throughout the summer.”

“Our affiliated network of deliverers will be providing world class lessons that are safe and welcoming but most of all fun.”

“Having a 3-session program will allow women to not just have a one off session but to fully engage in the activity and become life-long Stand Up Paddlers.”

VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter said Surfing Victoria’s Coasting program was a fun and social way to be active.

“Most Victorian women struggle to meet the recommended 150 minutes of physical activity each week,” Ms Rechter said.

“Being physically active can reduce the risk of developing anxiety, depression, musculoskeletal conditions type 2 diabetes, cancer and heart disease.

“Stand-up paddle boarding is a great way to increase physical activity. It’s fun, easy to master and gentle on the joints, making it suitable for women of all ages and abilities. Getting involved in a 3-session program is a great way to enjoy the outdoors alone or with friends.”

Programs will begin in the first week of November and continue through to April.
